Chapters / Volunteer Opportunities

As an AMA member, you can participate in many aspects of American Marketing Association activities. At both the local and national levels, you'll find numerous opportunities to plan, lead, speak, teach, and assist. If you want to volunteer, please let us know.

Event Planning
Many AMA national conferences are planned by groups of AMA volunteers, who have some level of expertise in the event topic. Participation and attendance at national events is an excellent way to meet others with similar interests and to make connections with those who have planned the conference for that year. Most event chairs are volunteers who have worked on a conference program for one or more years.

For more information contact speak@ama.org. Please indicate which conference you are interested in volunteering for.

Speaking
Regular AMA activities provide members with opportunities to speak on marketing-related issues and topics. AMA volunteers can speak at the following:
  • AMA conferences, which are developed by volunteer committees, need speakers to speak on conference topics.
  • Marketing schools, which are conducted in conjunction with major universities, recruit speakers to address attendees.
  • Marketing tutorials, which focus on marketing and marketing-research subjects, need speakers to address tutorial topics.

For more information contact speak@ama.org. Please indicate which conference you are interested in speaking at.

Local Chapters
Each of the AMA's 75 professional chapters operates independently and is run by volunteers. Local chapters employ volunteers to oversee all aspects of chapter management: finance, programming, membership, succession planning, sponsorship, and professional development.

If you want to participate locally, contact your
professional chapter to learn more about volunteer opportunities in your area.

AMA Councils
AMA councils represent the various AMA constituencies including academics, researchers, marketing practitioners, and representatives of AMA chapters. Volunteer council members are charged with oversight of AMA activities designed for their constituencies. Most council members are volunteers who have previous experience in the conference-planning process.

For more information regarding Academic and Marketing Research Councils, contact Pat Goodrich at pgoodrich@ama.org

AMA Board of Directors
Candidates for at-large AMA board positions are respected marketing professionals with the experience and insight to provide clear strategic direction for the AMA. Ideal board candidates also have a broad, strategic view of the marketing profession and a thorough knowledge of the AMA and its operations. Candidates generally are first nominated for the secretary/treasurer position as a starting point for increasingly responsible volunteer leadership positions.

For more information contact Susan Wolfson at swolfson@ama.org.

Council and Board Nominations
Each year, the AMA nominating committee identifies and selects candidates with stature in the marketing profession and the ability to provide the volunteer leadership that is essential to the AMA. A call for nominations is issued in June, and nominations for council and board positions can be made by any active AMA member. Nominations are carefully considered by the nominating committee, and a final slate is submitted for approval to the board of directors in October. Elections take place in the first quarter of the following year.

For more information contact Susan Wolfson at swolfson@ama.org.

Target both the AMA's 38,000 members as well as the over 750,000 marketing professionals working today in the U.S. and Canada.
