Summary

Touted as the driver of the next wave of innovation, productivity and growth, big data is changing the scale of information sharing and technology trends. Social media sites and smartphones generate a tremendous volume of “digital exhaust data” that could enhance productivity in both the public and private sectors. But big data has a big problem: There’s not enough human capital to take full advantage of these mountains of information. 

In a whitepaper from the McKinsey Global Institute, the firm predicts a shortage of talent necessary to conduct deep analysis on the data and consume the results effectively.
