Look for the 2009 AMA Collegiate Conference to be one of the most exciting ever.  Slated to be held in New Orleans, March 26-28, 2009 at the Hilton Riverside, the conference is designed to provide a collaborative marketing experience through the use of on-site competitions, networking events, career counseling, recruiting, and top-tier speakers.  Over three days, sessions will address leading-edge practices in sports marketing, retail, and multi-cultural markets.  Attendance is expected to be the highest ever with more than 300 college students anticipated from around the U.S., Canada and Puerto Rico.

Last year’s conference streamlined the format and added value to members with more events on Thursday before the official opening session, with popular motivational speaker Kevin Snyder encouraging persistence in the pursuit of goals.  The chapters who are awarded American Marketing Association Foundation (AMAF) community service grants will be showcased with video highlights during lunch.  A recruitment video contest was announced this year and the winner will be announced at the conference.  The SABRE simulation competition, Northwestern Mutual Sales competition, Karl O. Mann website competition and Thursday night exhibit session will all return next year.  For information or deadlines on any of the competitions, contact Naomi Walters at nwalters@ama.org

Collegiate Marketing Partners (CMP) is a key component of the conference.  Companies looking to connect with college graduates benefit via a partnership that provides them with exclusive access to the “best of the best” that invest in their professional development by attending the conference.  CMPs will be leading career development sessions on Thursday, holding information booths on Friday morning, and conducting on-site interviews for the remainder of the day.  For information on becoming a CMP, contact Karen Gwynne at kgwynne@ama.org.

The theme of the conference is based on the case sponsor.  The 2009 conference case sponsor is Kodak and will open the Friday session with a discussion of the challenges it is facing in today’s digital marketplace.  (See related story for more on the Case Competition).

“Experience speaks” sessions allow students to interact with industry leaders.  More than 12 speakers are on hand during the day so students can select those sessions that most closely match their interests.

Saturday culminates with a full day of leadership presentations and new AMA incentives.  The conference closes on Saturday night when the top 16 chapters of 2008-2009 are announced.  It is a moment the chapters work toward all year.  Previous winners have included University of Pennsylvania, University of Wisconsin-Whitewater, and Florida International University.

For more information on the conference, contact co-chairs Tim Birrittella at Tim.Birrittella@fiu.edu or Victoria Panzer at vpanzer@coba.usf.edu.
