It Takes More Than a Great Idea to Innovate

Summary

It takes more than a great idea to innovate - but that's where the process starts. In particular, Idea generation - and ultimately, the use of mechanisms like idea collection systems or community outreach portals to foster idea generation and collection- can have a powerful impact on an organization's ability to innovate. For example, Best-in-Class organizations are, on average, 40% more likely than their peers to tap into the ideas of those external to the organization to fuel their innovation engines, often taking advantage of online community forums to do so. That's just one of the key findings identified in Aberdeen's January 2009 research study, "The Innovator's Toolbox: Empowering the Next Wave of Difference Makers" which explores how organizations empower their innovators to develop a steady steam of new and profitable products.
