The Collegiate Chapters Council of the American Marketing Association (AMA) runs an annual International Collegiate Case Competition that it began in 1986/87. The Case Competition is open to undergraduate teams at those schools that have an affiliated AMA Collegiate Chapter. The AMA Case Competition is a yearlong event that brings the top marketing students together to work on a marketing challenge submitted by a sponsoring organization.
The primary purpose of the case competition is two-fold: to provide AMA Collegiate members the opportunity to work together on a student problem that typifies a real, working marketing situation and to provide the case competition sponsor with direct contact with the very best marketing students.
The sponsor provides a detailed marketing problem for which it is looking to gain the perspective of AMA’s best students, who will compete by developing a marketing strategy in a nationally recognized competition.
This year’s sponsor is the UNICEF Tap Project and more information can be found by clicking on the following links:
How is the Competition executed?
All affiliated AMA Collegiate Chapters are eligible to compete. Interested Chapters submit an official entry form and submit a written case study; a panel of judges then reviews the entries and eight finalists are selected. Judging of the finalists takes place via an oral competition at the Annual International Collegiate Conference April 8-10, 2010 in New Orleans. The winning Chapters receive cash awards. The sponsoring company retains all of the submitted entries and proprietary marketing information submitted by competing Chapters.

Competition.pdf
Using water more wisely – especially potable water which uses energy and chemicals to treat – is imperative, as supplies are limited and our population and economy are growing. Public education, along with new water-efficient products and building design methods, are critical to contain water use. Plumbing manufacturers such as Kohler are responding to this need by developing new products that use less water, but don't sacrifice performance.
Kohler Co. is sponsoring a national, collegiate competition among AMA chapters to help educate consumers about water conservation in the home. For this initiative, Kohler is asking students to develop a marketing campaign – culminating with a sales event – to raise awareness on campus and in the surrounding community regarding Water Conservation.
What’s unique about this competition is the opportunity Kohler will provide to the top three chapters selected. Each will be awarded money and supplies (product demonstration, tent, signage, etc.) to execute their marketing plan. Chapters will be judged on several criteria – including creativity, media value, attendees, and product sales.
Moreover, the top three chapters will be awarded water-conserving faucets and/or fixtures to help “green” their own campus. Kohler will provide the students with high efficiency toilets, low flow showerheads and faucets to help their own campus save thousands of gallons of water each year. The members of the executive team of the Top Chapter will be flown to Kohler, Wisconsin for a visit with key marketing executives to discuss the success of their project and learn more about careers in marketing for one of the world’s largest privately held companies.

SABRE Business Competition
Deadline for registration: March 15, 2010
More Information
http://www.marketingpower.com/Community/collegiate/Pages/sabre.aspx
This year at the AMA conference, teams of students are invited to participate in the SABRE business simulation, which is used at leading business schools, including Wharton, University of North Carolina and University of Michigan. Prizes will be awarded to the top teams.
SABRE™, (which stands for Strategic Allocation of Business REsources), is a market simulation developed by IIBD and used in IIBD's executive courses, and in MBA programs worldwide.
About the Competition
SABRE provides the competitive environment which immerses the participants in a dynamic competitive situation. Teams may add and withdraw products from the marketplace as well as advertise, price, distribute and design those products to best fit varying market segments.
Each decision period represents a year of business activity. At the start of each period team members receive a company report and various market studies. The company report is a detailed snapshot of the company's results while the market studies detail product awareness, customer purchase habits, customers' perceptions, etc.
Each team makes a series of strategic decisions - product planning, sales force deployment, R&D expenditures and market research purchases. Once the decisions are made, the team decisions are collected and loaded into the administrator's computer.
The simulation is run (simulating one year in the marketplace) determining market share, product contribution and overall profit for each company. Each team has an equally fair chance of succeeding depending on the strategies and tactics they employ.
Participants must make their decisions in the face of uncertain market conditions, including competitor's moves. As is often the case in real life, there is no one specific solution to a problem but there are alternatives that are clearly superior or inferior.
