What is AMASavesLives?
Mission: The AMASavesLives Project hopes to improve awareness of the need for organ donation and increase the number of registered organ donors in the U.S.
Project Background: As part of a project funded by the federal government, the Collegiate American Marketing Association is encouraging AMA Chapters and members to participate in this social media and grassroots marketing campaign. Collegiate AMA members will receive emails and newsletters related to the AMASavesLives Project from the Collegiate AMA Headquarters. There are also four competitions that your AMA Chapter can participate and win awards and recognition.
Why Get Involved: There are currently over 105,000 patients in the U.S. on the waiting list for an organ transplant and every 11 minutes a new name is added. Because of the shortage of available organs, each day 19 people die while on the waiting list. A single organ donor has the potential to save 8 lives and a tissue donor can help up to 50 people. While over 90% of Americans say they support organ donation, only 30% know how to register to be an organ donor. Patients on the waiting list need your help increasing awareness for this cause and how to register to be an organ donor.
So what is the number one reason to get involved? You can make a difference by registering as an organ donor in your state (find out how at http://www.AMASavesLives.com/register.php) and by emailing and telling everyone you know about the AMASavesLives Project and the importance of organ donation.
You and your AMA Chapter can benefit in the following ways if you get involved:
1. Personal satisfaction knowing you are making a difference
2. Your decision to donate may help up to 8 people via donated organs and up to 50 lives from a tissue donation.
3. Resume builder/professional experience in social cause marketing
4. The Collegiate AMA will provide awards to Chapters who get involved in the competitions which include:
a. Best Video Competition
b. Short, Personalized Video Competition
c. Campus or Community Events Competition
d. Number of Registrations Influenced by Your Chapter
