    Research in Motion (RIM) is an acknowledged leader in the corporate mobile communications market. The Blackberry product line is the undisputed market leader in its niche space of corporate communication competing with Palm, Microsoft, HP and Others. The company is facing increased competiton from Microsoft in December 2002 and has an option of moving into software service space. The case provides a platform to discuss the global handheld devices market, technology strategies adopted, role of standards and complementary strategies.
