Vice Chair for Communications
This director is responsible for maintaining communications with MASSIG members. This includes working closely with the webmaster and other MASSIG Board members to ensure that all communications are sent out in a timely manner. A critical aspect of this position is working closely with the webmaster to let him/her know about the communication needs of the Board and the MAS SIG community. These tasks include the following:
Online newsletter
Working with the MASSIG community to put together a newsletter that will be published on the MASSIG website. The newsletter should start out as a twice a year newsletter with periodic updates through the website. The design of the website will be coordinated with the MASSIG Board to ensure that critical information to promote the organization to our community.
The Doc Sig
Develop and maintain a relationship with the DOC SIG to encourage doctoral students to join MAS SIG. This includes communicating with the DOC SIG ex-officio representative on the MASSIG Board.
Communication of MASSIG Objectives
The director must actively work to coordinate information related to conference, preconference, and other MASSIG events, elections results, awards, sponsorships, etc. This will include working with the directors of Special Programming, Conference Programming, Elections, Awards, and the ex-officio board members. Periodic broadcast emails will need to be sent out based on the communication needs of MAS SIG. For example, when the Doctoral Dissertation winner is selected, sending out a broadcast email message to communicate this information must be done in coordination with the director of Awards.
Working with the ARC Editor at AMA (arc@ama.org) as an additional venue for communicating MAS SIG information to the AMA community.
For the election process for MAS SIG Board members, the Vice Chair will distribute the email ballots for nominees to the MAS SIG community for election purposes. There is a time frame for the election process and the VC should coordinate with the Election director. The results of the election will also be announced by the VC through several channels including broadcast emails, sending the information to the ARC Editor (arc@ama.org), including it in the online newsletter, and other potential venues such as the ACR Listserv, ACR newsletter, ACR website, etc.
Promotional information for AMA Conferences
Flyers and other promotional information in cooperation with the Special Programming and the Conference Programming directors must be coordinated. An online version and a hardcopy version should be made with the hardcopy version sent to the AMA representative to put the information in the registration packets (Clara Nelson, cnelson@ama.org).
MAS SIG Email Contact List
The Vice Chair will work with the webmaster to update the MAS SIG email list so that the most current information is available for broadcast emails as well as for conference and event co-chairs to use for their respective events.
MAS SIG Listserv
Work with the webmaster to determine if a listserv for the MAS SIG is as viable option. This could be modeled after the ACR Listserv.
Overall, the Vice Chair of Communications is responsible for maintaining ongoing communications with the MAS SIG community, Board, AMA, and other organizations as needed and specified by the Board.
