SIG Special Session Proposals and Other Programming
SIG Special Sessions
The objective of SIG Special Sessions is to provide value to SIG members as educators and researchers in the interest area as well as to conference attendees. Proposals for SIG Special Sessions should describe the topic and its importance to marketers in the interest area, summarizing the issues to be covered, and identifying individuals who will participate. Specificity in your SIG Special Session proposal is important.
- At each of the AMA Educators' conferences, up to 16 conference sessions are reserved for SIG sessions. With 17 SIGs and some submitting multiple proposals, acceptance is enhanced by well-developed proposals for sessions which provide value to SIG members as well as other AMA attendees. These should be submitted to the identified SIG Track Chair(s).
In submitting Special Session proposals, the organizer and listed participants affirm that, if accepted, all will register and appear at the Conference to present.
Selection criteria include the general quality of the proposal, the level of interest the session is likely to generate at the conference, and the session's relevance to the conference theme.
Procedures for Preparing and Submitting Special Session Proposals
- "Anyone interested in proposing SIG programming should contact the appropriate SIG leaders to seek endorsement by the SIG for the session. The list of current SIGs and contact information is available at on the ARC (http://www.marketingpower.com/arc) under Connections, and then under SIGs. Doctoral students: Please note that the Doctoral Students' SIG does not have a specific Doctoral SIG track in the Conference. Accordingly, doctoral students are invited to submit manuscripts and/or special session proposals to any tracks or through a SIG.
- In preparing proposals, please follow the Procedures for Preparing and Submitting under the general Special Sessions section page. Also see the AMA Proceedings and Publishing Policy statement at the bottom of that page.
Other options for SIGs:
- Competitively-reviewed sessions: SIGs may submit for regular competitive review to regular tracks. If a SIG wants to submit a series of papers for competitive review, they should contact the conference or track chairs to ask if the papers could be grouped together IF ACCEPTED. This approach might be appropriate if SIGs wish such papers to appear in the proceedings. This allows AMA to maintain the "competitively-reviewed" standing of the conference proceedings. Alternatively, SIG session papers or panel information can be posted on the ARC or the SIG's website for dissemination.
- Pre-conference events: SIGs wishing to do more significant programs may submit proposals for pre-conference events. These proposals are submitted directly to the President of the Academic Council, not the conference or track chairs. Please see the Pre-Conference Guidelines available under SIG Resources on the Academic Resource Center (ARC) for criteria, format, and deadlines.
