“My Grandmother's Clocks”
The grandfather clock at my grandmother's house strikes eight times
when it is only four o'clock
in the afternoon.
The kitchen clock is sixteen minutes fast
at least and grandma's
bedroom clock has no discernable pattern.
It may show two
(in the morning!?)
when I think that it is seven (at night).
On other clocks
the hands don't visibly turn
at all.
At the age of 81
my grandmother seems not to notice
this confusing contradiction of clocks.
She is quite advanced
in her approach
to the years.
