Question: I would like to know about the trend of employers wanting MBAs for almost all positions. How many MBA grads are out there with 10 years working experience? They seem to be my competition and it really gets frustrating not having that degree. I can't afford to go back to school especially with being out of work. I have the time and no money and usually it is I have the money but no time.
Answer: Relevant education is definitely key to many positions, however not it’s necessarily always a requirement, even though the job description reads otherwise. Keep in mind that when employers put together a job description, they are placing the bar high and showcasing the qualifications as what they would want from a “dream candidate.” Now, that’s not to say that everyone and anyone should apply for the job. They still want qualified candidates, however don’t feel the need to pass on submitting your resume because you background doesn’t fit every single bullet of their qualifications.
Be sure to remember that for every job you’re applying to, you should tailor your resume to fit the qualifications. It’s always best to have multiple copies of your resume on file and customize it for submission.
