Question: What small jobs can people be working while unemployed that will keep their skills sharp?

Answer:  Being uemployed can create a space on your resume that you don't want to have to discuss in the future.  So it is always good to think about ways to keep your skills sharp.  Volunteering for a charitable organization, serving on a committee for your a local organization or volunteering at various professional events like the AMA in a marketing role is one good way.  There are also other things you can do like be a contract marketer.  Working with a Staffing firm like Aquent, you can find work on a contract or temporary basis that allows you to fill your resume and keep from being idle while you search for a new job.  Or you might just love the life of a contractor and become an independent professional.
