Question: I have contacted a number of recruiters and have received little to no feedback. How often should you touch base with a recruiter even if you haven't heard back -- weekly, biweekly? Is there a day and/or time during the week to follow-up for best results? Should I continue to follow-up via email or by phone? Help - I don't want to seem desperate, but I also don't want to lose out on a potential opportunity because I didn't follow-up.

Answer: During these times of record high unemployment rates Recruiters are being approached by record numbers of applicants daily.  My first suggestion is make sure the recruiter your trying to connect with actually handles the types and level of positions you are looking for and are qualified for. If your having trouble getting that initial connection I recommend applying to an appropriate posted position.  Generally speaking recruiters want to see candidates are being thoughtful in their applications and are not applying to every job that is posted regardless of qualifications.  The best way to connect with a recruiter is to be the perfect resume fit for a job they are sourcing for!  If a cover letter or salary history is requested, provide that recruiter with whatever information they have requested.  From there, I would recommend speaking to your recruiter and asking what their preferred method and frequency of contact is.  You might be surprised to hear our preferences are as individual as we are!  I also recommend asking your recruiter if there is a site or link they will have open positions posted so that you can be proactive in reviewing their positions as they post them.
