Question
Do you have any suggestions for resume writing? Also any suggestions on what to join and what to do to make myself more attractive to employers?

Answer
There are many ways to make yourself more attractive to employers. The American Marketing Association is a great organization to join because it connects you with marketers all over the country. I don’t know if you have posted your resume on the AMA job board but that would be a great place to start to get your self out there in the marketing community. Experience wise you may want to try volunteering your marketing skills to different organizations who can’t afford to hire someone to handle their marketing. This will look good to employers and help you feel out different sections of your profession.

Some resume tips:
1. Keep it short, one page
2. Leave out the personal interest stuff.
3. If you've had a long career, highlight the most recent stuff.
4. Organization of your resume is key, you have about a 5 sec retention rate make sure what the employer is seeing during that time is attention grabbing and are your key attributes. Especially in the marketing world employers are looking for an employee/resume that stands out from the stack of 150+, if yours looks and says what everyone else's says you will get lost in the shuffle no matter how qualified you are.
5. Try to make a personal connection with the hiring manager. If you can get an introduction, that's great, but, if not, find some other way to get them on the phone. Ask them questions about the job (why is the position open? what are you looking for in the ideal candidate? what will be the biggest challenge for the person in this role?). Tailor your cover letter to their responses. Tailor your resume to support your cover letter.
