Answer
While you will naturally need to start with your own needs (that is, what kind of package will make this position not only attractive but also manageable for you), the main thing you need to consider is the viability of the project, the amount of funding currently lined up, and the anticipated burn rate. In any start-up scenario, there is going to be a trade-off between paying people in the present with the available capital or paying them with potential future earnings. Your current situation and your assessment of the business will ultimately determine how willing you are to defer compensation, taking it in the form of equity, for example, or insist on being paid for what you are doing right now, regardless of the outcome.
