Attending the same networking events regularly will help you establish longstanding relationships. This is important as those relationships will help support you through a search, but also the people you meet will be more likely to refer you to others within their network. Attending different groups is also valuable. The more connections you can make, the better. If time is an issue, consider the group that will provide you with the best exposure to connections that can positively influence your career. Networking is a two way street though so be prepared to give as much as you get. You can also network via the internet by taking advantage of the social media boom. There are many groups you can join on LinkedIn, for example, that will give you local, national, and even international connections.
